Success at the 27th Universal Postal Union Congress

PostEurop Members take on UPU Leadership role

Following the elections at the 27th Universal Postal Union (UPU) Congress, which took place in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, PostEurop would like to congratulate all the elected candidates for the new UPU cycle (2022-2025), especially those with close links to the PostEurop daily activities.

Mr. Masahiko Metoki (Japan) has been elected as the new Director General of the UPU, thus succeeding Bishar A. Hussein. Congratulating his successor, UPU Director General Bishar A. Hussein said, “Member countries have expressed their confidence in you and in Japan to lead this Union for the next cycle. I want to congratulate the Government and the delegation of Japan on this remarkable achievement."

PostEurop's Management Board Member, Mr. Marjan Osvald (Slovenia) has been elected by UPU Members as the new Deputy Director General of the UPU. Responding to his appointment, Marjan stated that he would “fight for accountability, transparency and business ethics.” Marjan will succeed Mr. Pascal Clivaz, also a former PostEurop Management Board Member.

Mr. Jean-Paul Forceville (France), PostEurop's Chairman was elected by the Postal Operations Council (POC) Members as the new POC Chair. In this new function, Mr. Forceville will succeed Mr. Masahiko Metoki. After his election, Jean-Paul stated: "By electing me, you are doing France and Groupe La Poste a great honour. I am entering my 43rd year as a postman and this victory is like the crowning of a career. I would like to extend a warm greeting to Ms Dong Hongmei, candidate from China, with whom I had the pleasure of working for five years as Co-Chair of Commission 2 of the CEP."

Mr. Isaac Gnamba-Yao (Côte d’Ivoire) was announced as the new Chair of the Council of Administration (CA) for the upcoming 4 years.

Mr. Botond Szebeny, Secretary General of PostEurop added: "We are proud to see two of our esteemed Management Board Members and friends elected into these high-profile positions within the Universal Postal Union structure. The Association also congratulates all PostEurop Members who were elected for the POC and CA cycles of 2022-2025. We are confident that they will contribute substantially to shaping the future of the postal sector using the unique know-how and expertise based on the dynamic European postal market environment. PostEurop, together with its members, remains committed to working closely with the UPU and all of the other Restricted Unions, to further contribute to the sustainable future of the postal industry. We would also like to take this opportunity to express our heartfelt gratitude to  Mr. Bishar A. Hussein and Mr. Pascal Clivaz, for their work while leading the UPU for the past nine years". 

PostEurop Members elected for the CA: Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia & Herzegovina, France, Germany, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Russian Federation, Spain, Switzerland, United Kingdom.

PostEurop Members elected for the POC: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria , France, Germany, Georgia, Italy, Kazakhstan, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Romania, Russian Federation, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, United Kingdom.
