This Europe day marks the official launch of the 2023 EUROPA Stamps, which will feature a common design motif based on the theme of "PEACE - the highest value of humanity". At the time of the launch, PostEurop has received visuals of more than 50 EUROPA stamps from postal companies in European countries or territories. See the gallery here.The idea to launch this theme came from the designated postal operator of Ukraine, JSC “Ukrposhta” who made a special request to PostEurop and its Members to demonstrate their solidarity with Ukraine during a time of war. It would serve to promote one the main values of society, one that should be consciously present in humanity – Peace. In order to give prominence to the theme and demonstrate support of JSC Ukrposhta and Ukraine, the PostEurop Board of Directors not only approved the request, but also decided that this should be a common design motive, which is intended for special occasions and PostEurop has only decided to do this twice since 1993.

The winning design from Post Luxembourg has been successfully adopted by our Members, who were able to perfectly integrate this common design idea within their portfolio. This unity amongst our Members has made the project a great success” said Agnieszka Trząskowska, Chairwoman of the PostEurop Stamps & Philately Working Group.
Post Luxembourg's design motif, "The New Peace Symbol," was selected out of the 29 entries submitted during the 2023 EUROPA design competition, being the most voted by the 44 postal companies who participated in the voting process.
The concept of this design is set around the idea of a new peace symbol that can unite all nations, regardless of cultural differences which can often be seen as defying barriers to peace. However, if mankind could respect each other's differences by understanding their significance and responding to them with consideration, the world could definitely be a better place. This design depicts a visual metaphor for a peacefully integrated, cooperative society in which people embrace each other's cultures. It was inspired by the Celtic Love Knot symbol, with interlocking hearts, and the colour palette illustrates all the nations in the world. By depicting a pair of hands holding each other with intertwined fingers, the design conveys the message of mutual respect.
PostEurop would like to emphasise that given the nature of this joint motif edition, the usual Online Competition will not take place. PostEurop and its members will continue to share and promote the several EUROPA Stamps designs throughout our media channels, and resume the Competition in 2024, with the theme: “Underwater Fauna & Flora”.
